Decompensated metabolic acidosis in the emergency department: Epidemiology, sodium bicarbonate therapy, and clinical outcomes

CONCLUSIONS: ABG-confirmed decompensated metabolic acidosis was rare but associated with a high mortality. SB administration occurred in a minority of patients and in more acidaemic patients.
